Book & Gift Shop

Our museum gift and bookshop has a special history, based in the very same room that Dr Samuel Johnson’s parents ran their bookshop business from since 1708.

Today the shop is a bibliophile's dream with floor to ceiling bookshelves bursting with new, second-hand, and antiquarian books.

A must for all those visiting Lichfield, walking through the door is stepping into a cosy book lover’s paradise, whether you’re searching for books on Johnson, local history, or a good escapist novel, we stock a vast array of genres.

We also stock a wide range of souvenirs and unique giftware including prints, jewellery, homeware, toys, and greeting cards. We take great pride in supporting local artists and small businesses by stocking independent suppliers.

Every purchase helps fund the running and care of The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum, which is free to enter. By shopping with us, you are helping support everything that we do.

If you would like to make a donation of books please speak to a member of staff in the Bookshop, or email us at sjmuseum@lichfield.gov.uk

Our friendly staff look forward to welcoming you whether you're a first-time reader or an expert at scouring shelves for hidden gems.
